The English language plays a vital role in ensuring that the maritime sector remains connected and is able to function at an optimal level. It bridges the differences in geographical locations by providing a united identify for the Maritime sector that allows global interaction that is not void of the cultural and language differences that makes each individual unique. The NMIT Language Centre strives to exhibit and promote exceptional language quality through the courses and events that are delivered by its trained language lecturers. The courses offered by the Centre cater to all levels and are suitable for not only at the student-level but also those who are already in the field.
The courses offered by the NMIT Language Centre are constructed to fit the specific needs of the target audience. Each course is developed to meet the objectives required and to ensure that the students will be able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge that they have learnt in their performance inside and outside of the classroom. The Centre also offers tailor-made courses as requested by clients for a variety of skills that are required of them to be able to perform as highly-skilled individuals with high competence in communication skills.
Among the courses offered by the NMIT Language Centre are Preparatory English and Elementary English. For learners who would like to futher strengthen their English language proficiency may also register for its Communicative English Programme which centers on the four levels of English namely Beginners, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and Upper Intermediate. The NMIT Language Centre also offers Maritime English to clients who would like to enhance their use of the English language within the Maritime sector.
The Language Centre is also experienced in organizing international events representing NMIT. The Language Centre has hosted several international events such as the 27th International Maritime English Conference, which brought together delegates from 20 countries. The 4-day conference focused on highlighting the important role that the English language plays in the maritime field, especially through education, while generating new ideas that may be implemented in Maritime English classrooms all over the world. The Language Centre also works hand in hand with the NMIT Graduation Committee for its annual graduation ceremonies. The 3rd NMIT Graduation Ceremony this year welcomed the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Malaysia, Mrs Karin Mössenlechner, as its guest of honour. The NMIT Language Centre is also at the forefront of organizing visits by international partners and visitors to NMIT.
In the future, the NMIT Language Centre hopes to offer more language classes and services to NMIT and the public. It holds true to the belief that language learning is a continuous effort that is limitless. The Centre is constantly working towards developing and introducing new ideas that will further propel NMIT and the maritime industry towards a more robust future.
