Admission Policy

Students are advised to read the policies and the terms and conditions governing the admission to Netherland Maritime Institute of Technology (NMIT) and the student’s continued enrolment as student of NMIT, as set out below:

Admission Policy

Admission to Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology (henceforth known as the Institute) is based on all an overall assessment of the individual’s potential. The Institute reserves the right to reject an application and to review a student’s progress periodically. The Institute may, at its discretion, deregister a student’s registration for lack of academic progress, failure to honour fees and deposits payable or failure to abide by the Rules and Regulations prescribed in the Student Handbook.

Fees

ALL Fees including but not limited to registration, admission, facilities, resource, processing, insurance premium, international student charges imposed by the authorities and deposits payable for the academic year are set out in the payment schedule structure. Fees indicated on the current fee structure may not be applicable for subsequent semesters except for tuition fee payable. 

Failure to pay fees on time may result the students being barred from classes, examination and or facilities as the Institute deemed fit. The Institute further reserves the right to withhold the releases of all examination results, certificates and records of the students until full settlement of fees are made. Fees are strictly NON REFUNDABLE and NON TRANSFERABLE to any persons under any circumstances. For avoidance of doubts, the Institute reserves the right to review and revise fees annually.

Late Payment Fee

A late payment interest of two percent (2%) per month will be charged on daily rests after the due date.

Tuition Fee Refund

The proportion tuition fee refund, upon student official withdrawal received by the Institute as below:

  • 75% refund within 7 days from the first day from the commencement of semester
  • 50% refund by the 8th – 14 days from the commencement of semester
  • No Refund after 14 days from the commencement of semester

The percentage of refund is only applied based on “full payment” of the current semester’s fee. For partial fee payment, the above percentage of refund is not applied.

Refund

All refund including deposits shall be free of interest and the Institute reserves the right to set-off the refundable amount against any outstanding fees or whatsoever payments due and owing to the Institute.

Retaking Fee

The Retaking Fee will be invoiced based on the Hourly Rate X No. of Credit Hours for the module for student who has failed module(s). The retaking fee will be paid two (2) weeks before the commencement of the term, commencing on 1st day of the semester in which the module will be offered. Current retaking fee is RM750 per credit
hour.

Withdrawal

For withdrawals, students will be required to complete the “Application for Withdrawal from Program” form.

Deferment

Students are not allowed to defer studies once the term has commenced. Students who wish to defer their term of studies must submit the “Application for Deferment” form at least 30 days before commencement of the new term. The decision to grant the student deferment will be considered on a case to case basis and at the sole discretion of the Registrar To re-join the Institute, the student has to inform the Institute in writing 30 days before the term begins. Students who wish to re-enrol after deferment will have to pay an Administration Fee and the Course Fees in effect at the time of their re-enrolment. This Administrative Fee is nonrefundable and non-transferable.

Appeals

Student may only appeal to the Institute for your final results to be reviewed under genuine circumstances where factors beyond your control have affected your academic performance. A Request for Justification of Marks form must be submitted to the Student Affairs Department within the next semester of the modules taken. Late appeals will not be considered. Appeals that involve re-marking will incur an administrative fee of RM300.00. You should consult the relevant Head of School or the Student Affairs regarding all appeals.

Examinations And Evaluations

To qualify for various Institute’s awards, students will be required to successfully complete various course work, examinations, projects, industrial attachment program, and other forms of evaluation prescribed in the various courses offered by the Institute. Various conditions apply to the eligibility for examinations. Students will only be admitted to examination provided that the student has (1) met all current financial obligations and (2) fulfilled the requirements of the course leading to the examinations.

Examinations are administered at scheduled times and students must attend examinations. Students failing to attend examinations may be liable for a separate Examination Fee to have an equivalent examination set, administered and marked. Student assignments, projects and other related work may be retained by the Institute or project sponsors for a period of up to 5 years after completion of study for marketing and promotional purposes.
