prof-azizProfessor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Aziz Ibrahim is a professional engineer. Prof. Aziz obtained his Ph.D from University of Newcastle – upon – Tyne, England, UK majoring in coastal and offshore/marine engineering, specifically in pipeline and subsea structures, where he was interned with Petronas Carigali for 3 – Months in 1984. He has a master Degree in Hydraulic Engineering (majoring in river engineering) and B.Sc Degree in Civil Engineering, both from Glasgow University, Scotland, UK. Prof. Aziz has served as the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL) from 2005 till 2009 where he initiated among others, biotechnology, aquaculture, coastal and marine technology academic programs and spearheaded entrepreneurship and R & D programs for the State of Selangor and SMI group. Prior to administering UNISEL, he has been holding the professorial post in University Technology Malaysia (UTM) for the last 15 years. From 1995- 2000 he was appointed as the pioneering Director- General of National Hydraulic Research Institute, Malaysia (NAHRIM), in charge of the national research and development (R & D) in water, coastal and offshore sectors. He is also the founder and the pioneering director of the Coastal and Offshore Engineering Institute (1990-1995), majoring mainly in reclamation, dredging and other coastal and offshore engineering, computer modelling and environmental R&D and consultancy river and flood services.

As the Chief Executive of NMIT, Prof Aziz is responsible for the overall management and performance of the Institute. This covers strategic ways to produce graduates that are highly employable and sought after, offering and displaying unique academic and professional strengths. He is pushing for global brand recognition of NMIT.
